What’s the best Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the Philippines?

Ok, I’ve been offline for 2 days straight “AGAIN” because of Smart Bro’s Awesome Internet Connection and I can’t blame myself of choosing it as my ISP due to the fact that I already knew that it really sucks, still, I made my dumb choice to go for Smart Bro.

Smart Bro
All Internet Service Providers had their own “Negative Reviews” that’s why I can’t decide myself which of them is better than the other. I only know few ISPs here in the Philippines (excluding Smart Bro): Globelines Broadband, SkyBroadband,Sky Cable’s ZPDee, Sky Internet, DigitelOne DSL, Bayantel DSL, Meridian Telekoms Broadband and PLDT MyDSL.

What I’m trying to do now is to solicit comments from you, my dear readers, of what’s the best Internet Service Provider in the Philippines from your own experience because I’m planning to dump Smart Bro and move to a brand new ISP after suffering internet havoc for 48 hours straight.

Hoping to hear from you guys…

UPDATE 07/27/09: Here’s a top 10 list of Internet Service Providers in the Philippines based on SpeedTest.net. I can only name two commercial ISPs in the screenshot below: Sky Broadband and Sky Internet (I’m not sure if these two are now merged. Others also said that Sky Internet is the same with Bayan DSL). Most of the ISPs in the list are private. If you’re a DOST employee, you’re very lucky to experience the fastest upload and download speed in the Philippines. Here’s the screenshot of the Top 10 ISPs:

i think it also depends on the area.. i’m using smartbro canopy for over a year now and ok naman siya.. 2 times pa lang yata ako tumatawag sa customer care to report a problem. what sucks is the smartbro usb modem… and i heard that smart is going to release a LTE USB modem which will give speeds up to 50 mbps daw.. hmmmmm! thanks mr jehzlau for starting this blog.. it has been my hobby to read the comments here! :)

PLDT DSL and smart bro both sucks.

I think naka 1 year din kami. Smart bro and dial-up are equal in speed WTF. Mabilis pa ang ISP Bonanza. hirap lalo na kapag may bagyo. WALANG SIGNAL!

Sky Cable Zpdee, according to an online friend, minsan, walang connection for an hour. Better than PLDT DSL huh? 12-24 hours no connection.

Satisfied, contented and magaan sa bulsa. Last May lang kami nagpakabit, hindi maiiwasan may downtime, but unlike PLDT, Digitel Downtime only takes a minute!

Super Bilis! As in pag nagdownload ka ng torrents eh ang DOWNLOAD SPEED ay almost 1 gbps.

So far, zpdee ang pinakamabilis. Basically, basta cable internet (hindi DSL or ADSL), paniguradong mabilis un.

correct me if I am wrong, ang alam ko Meridian din ang main provider ng Smart which is affiliated sa PLDT, and nde maganda experience ko about Meridian. So kahit cguro T1 pa connection mo dito sa beloved Philippines may maeencounter ka talaga problem e, choose the lesser evil na lng hahaha and hope for the best. One reason din siguro is yung physical connections dito sa pinas is not that good particularly sa Manila, kita mo nman yung wires ng PLDT at meralco nde mo na alam which is which hahaha. Good luck sa search mo ng provider

Bayan DSL for me. Kasi mabilis ang download speed, hindi palaging nag o offline, mga once or twice a month lang, pero minutes lang naman, kung e compare mo sa iba na palagi, like smart bro, more than 50% ng internet users halos walang internet for 1 week sa smart bro, based on the statistics yan ah…

Kaya, based sa mga comments mo dito at sa mga reviews ng ibang blogs, the best na ISP in the Philippines as of today is Bayan DSL, so Bayan DSL ka na!

I had PLDT DSL for around a year until the great earthquake arrived and killed it. I then switched to Smart Bro, which to my surprise, was more stable. They also have better customer service.

Hello! Well i am one the frequent user of Internet at least 8 hours a day. I am using MyDSL PLDT though not as fast as they promised and publish in the papers but i would say a bit reliable. P990 plan is what i have. the downside of it is that during download and uploading, you will be left waiting for a while and such that you have to call them to report your dismay about the speed. Just give it a try…… this includes a land line whick is an added positive point.

It really depends sa location mo. Minsan mabagal pero nadadaan sa restart ng modem at router (or unplugging other people connected to the router). Medyo ayoko lang sa tech support nila pero recently, after one call and 3 callbacks, nagpadala sila ng tech. I’m on 1mbps speed plan and I get around 1.4-1.5 mbps when I’m downloading (although depende rin sa location ng servers).

Sobrang intermittent. Soooo… ewan ko. Masaya naman ako sa PLDT DSL. Leche lang talaga yung customer service nila.

try mo rin destiny cable internet. may cable internet ka na, may cable tv ka pa. most ng colleagues and former colleagues ko yun ang gamit at ayus naman ang work-from home connection nila dahil d2. “unlimited bandwidth” daw which would translate na yung bandwidth mo depende sa number of users at a given time.

kung afford mo naman, get a dedicated line to any telco’s backbone. at least T1 connection ayus na yun. di mo ka pa affected sa network congestion ng ordinary consumer dsl connections sa area mo. :) inquire ka pldt/globe or kung dollars ang rate ng gusto mo, try mo at&t or cable&wireless.

I was on SmartBro for a year then shifted to PLDT MyDSL after finishing my lockin period with them. Although, the speed was fine but when you have many things to do online, you will look for a faster connection. PLDT DSL was okay. Although there had been several crappy connections because of technical problems without prior notice. At least SmartBro is sending its subscribe a notice about an anticipated disconnection.

I am paying 997 a month for service any other provider better for the money

I have used wireless smart bro at 516 kbps and keep me in good connection for a whole year. Main problem if you intend to place a wireless router to share in the household you will keep on acquiring an IP address and will bother your connectivity and tech support will ask you to disconnect your router. Smart Bro has a quick fix program and will assist instantly in your connection problem. Very good I would say for a single PC.

Shifted to globe cable Internet at 1 mbps and keep me running good connection, accept router.

For mobility I used a Celfone from smart and is good for going thru your email and light surfing. It stall sometimes and connectivity is horrible at peak hours and weekend.

I tried a prepaid vissibility from globe which claimto run at 1.8 mbps. NOW THIS IS CALLED ‘HARANG’, This things runs like a dial up at 56 kbps and does it get higher than 256kbps in selected areas and the prepaid loading system is hackable. You load it, it get stolen immediately by hacker. Spread this around. MAIINIS KA LANG AT GUSTO KO NANG ITAPON DI MO PA MA IREFUND.

I will try smart bro mobile which they claim to run at 2 mbps. Will somebody give me a feed back so I will not run into a SCAM as globe vissibility

I’m on Globe Broadband now. Overall, I’m satisfied with the service. I’m paying for 1 Mbps a month but I can download torrents at speeds of up to 300 kbps. But one thing that annoys me is the frequent disconnection. Sometimes, you get disconnected as often as every 5 minutes. And you’re unlucky if you get the IP address of their proxy servers. For an average surfer, maybe it’s ok. But for someone like me who plays online strategy games competitively, it gets really annoying. One disconnection = 1 loss. T.T

When I do visit Pinas, during my traveling, I uses Smart SIM on my phone and connect it to my laptop for internet connection… which do me great because I could make calls back to the US that way. I live in San Pedro Laguna and my connection was okay. My point is I guess getting a good smart bro connection depends on your location.

Now, I am using Globelines (with the landline). It is okay and a bit better than smart bro (1mbps in speed) but it also has its shortcomings.

But I’ll take Globe over Smart since Globe’s customer service is relatively “better” compared to Smart.

I have just recently purchased and started using sun easy broadband. It’s service rendered at start around 5 days was really amazing. Unfortunately, lately, there has been noticeable decline in the net speed. I have enquired with nearest sun shop here in SM Valenzuela, but I was told there’s nothing that can be done since it has something to do with cyber traffic. I just wish this message won’t reach deaf ears this time and hope that Sun Cellular Nework/Digitel will do something about making their service rendered better. I have noticed that my connection was better when my IP was routed to Quezon. But ever since it was routed to Cavite it hasn’t been getting better at all, not even reaching 1mbps.I hope they do something bout this though. BUt so far, this has been better compared to my old mobile thingey which was from globe. It sure did sucked even more and it is even more expensive at 20 pesos per hour rate. I havent tried smart bro though and from the looks of it i won’t try it anymore.

SKY BROADBAND TESTIMONY – Jan. 26 to May 6, 2009

I live in Makati and subscribed to SkyBroadband’s 12Mbps Platinum package at Php6,000+/month. The installation was Jan. 26, 2009 and it cost me Php5,999 cash up-front which was “supposed to” include a portion of the first month’s billing. Problems resolving this with their billing dept. occurred a month later.

The Internet speeds were as advertised for the first week of service. After that, I noticed a major decline in connectivity speed and began calling Tech Support, religiously for the next two months.

Unfortunately, Sky Broadband’s Tech Support is a call center, so every call is scripted: “did you reset your modem? did you check your router? what operating system are you running on your computer?”, blah blah… They can only “forward” your issue to a qualified technician — which can take anywhere from one day to never.

Evidently, most Philippines ISP tech support lines are either outsourced to call centers, or managed similarly to call centers. The best advice I received is to get the name, phone#, and email address of a “real” person within the ISP’s organization upon subscribing to any ISP in the Philippines. Ideally, this would be an account manager. Otherwise, expect limited tech support regardless of the ISP. You’ve been warned!

In the first week of April, I finally got a Sky Broadband field technician to visit my residence. He inspected all of my equipment: cable modem, Linksys/Cisco WRT310N wireless router, xBox360, and my laptop. According to the field technician, all of my equipment was working properly and he determined the source of my connectivity speed performance decline is OUTSIDE of my residence. I also made him document this for the record to Sky Broadband before he left, so it was supposedly filed in his report.

Two weeks after the field tech visited my residence, I noticed a week of increased speed connectivity. Coincidence? Unfortunately, it only lasted one week. Afterwards, speeds declined to a less-than average of 512kbps, and have maintained since then until today May 6th, 2009.

The irony is that I can visit Speedtest.net, and get some amazing results but when I’m surfing the Internet, my browser displays incredibly slow connectivity. This may suggest poor routing, or back-end special filtering apps which cripple typical Internet up/down traffic. Regardless, my 512kbps average surfing speeds are less than 5% of the advertised 12Mbps service I’m paying — which seems unacceptable to just about anyone, di ba?

Last week, a local IT expert suggested I try PLDT’s MyDSL at 3Mbps “for a while” and observe any difference in connectivity speed. He said that broadband Internet will be always be handicapped by multiple users sharing the primary connection. Unfortunately, I’ve read only negative comments re: MyDSL on just about every blog site in the Philippines, and I expect the worst. However, even if I can get 1.5 Mbps out of MyDSL’s 3 Mbps service, I will be tripling my current speed with Sky Broadband.

Anyways, that’s my story and this is where I’m at with all this ISP dogma in the Philippines. I’m an expat from the U.S. and I can see a lot of business opportunities for Filipinos but if the communication infrastructure cannot compete with Western standards, then I suspect any prosperity from such opportunities will simply remain out-of-reach for the Philippines in general. But isn’t it amazing that just about everyone has a cell phone? Hmmmm…

Thanks for sharing Marc! This is very disappointing because I’m planning to move to Manila just for better internet connection. I’m also a U.S. expat (just moved to philipines) trying to do business online. Here in Sabang, Puerto Galera there is only one ISP reseller (iMindoro) as far as I know and have been to their office several times. The four clowns who call themselves “IT guys” in that office, all they are doing is playing online games and file sharing. My source of income is from online and I may have to leave philippines because of the internet connectivity problem. If you find a better solution, please let me know. Thanks!

In general, MyDSL and all other DSL providers and packages suck. Bayan installed their 2.5Mbps DSL in my condo (central Makati) and the throughput measured 0.11Mbps. Routers are good for cable internet. It does not affect speed no matter how many computers are connected, wired or wireless. If your subscription is of the antenae type (wireless like smart bro) it is basically for a single computer and if you intend to use a router you will encounter conection problem and you will keep resetting your connection. More likely service personnel of smart will ask you to stop using the router

Maybe planning to have internet connection and high definition internet TV if you can afford why not. Not if you are planning to open an internet cafe which is good for gaming and make your customer happy and interconnect your residential or business computer may be a good decision to go sky broadband……magiging sikat ka sa buong neighborhood…heheheh

I’ve been using smartbro for a year and I’m still good with it! I live in cavite, I’ve checked with the TS and my area is 3g/hsdpa OK. I’ve also configured my laptop specs as to improve my overall speed connection. Amybe you should try this too. Get as much info you need from their TS instead of moving to other ISP’s so randomly. If it still doesn’t work, then maybe its the time to check your other options. :)

  142. ISP Critic Says:

First of all, I am a hater of SMART services though GLOBE isn’t too far away. They both suck. I just have to let this out.

And now here’s my unbiased experience.

The ISP’s here in PH depends greatly in your area to function properly. You need to do your homework if you are to subscribe to any of them.

i.e. PLDT myDSL has excellent speed, stability and customer support in the “heart” of Baguio City, elsewhere, just plain sucks. In QC and Paranaque very unstable. So if i am in Baguio i’d definitely go for PLDT hands down. Too bad i think they cannot afford any more slots.

BayanDSL is pretty impressive in NCR better than PLDT i would strongly imply.

SmartBro unlimited = Great in areas where there is minimal connection, less clutter. As they send the signal through towers very low tech if you ask me. But you could get away with it if you’re not sharing your bandwidth. In Baguio where there is plenty of connection already, forget it and you’ll be happy just the same.

Prepaid SmartBro, Globe = The only good thing i can say here is that they’re the cheapest HSDPA gadget around. And since it’s made for surfing and for people on the go, i will give it a 4/10. Under a tower however i’ll give it 9/10. I reached 1.5mbps there max with stable connection. But of course, kinda defeats its purpose.

Globe wireless = SmartBro is better.
Globe landline + DSL = Same as PLDT only cheaper and slightly lagging behind in speed. This is my current connection as PLDT DSL isn’t available here in my current location. I don’t know in other areas though.

    Final words.
Survey your location, gather as much information you can. More connection means more clutter but not necessarily. As long as they have available slot for you(outside NCR), go for PLDT. Within NCR go Bayantel. Else go GlobeDSL(landline).

Hello, I had PLDT before, I had Globe broadband before and I also had Digitelone. all of them have gud and bad sides. but the worst is Digitelone and PLDT. Imagine nyo ultimo field technician nila di alam ginagawa. The reason I was able to say this is I use to be a tech support for a router before so my idea ako sa mga pinag gagawa nila. . and FYI kung 1MB ang internet connection ang binabayaran mo every month, dapat atleast 70% – 80% ang speed na makukuha mo out of 1MB. yan dapat ang average speed mo araw araw. now this company thinks that all end user does not know this. kapag bumaba ka sa 70% ng 1MB it means they are not giving what they promise and what we are paying. request ka na dapat nun ng rebate. the problem with end user is haggat may connection gamit lang ng gamit. so di mo ma notice na mabagal na pala connection mo unless abutin ka ng mahigit sa 1min para sa isang website. tapos dun ka palang mag rereklamo. pero kung agresibo ka na i check lagi ang speed mo di sila makaka takas sayo at di ka nila ma loloko. I would also advise is use speedtest.net and 2wire.com to compare the speed na nakukuha mo para sure ka kung ano talaga average speed. Lets face it all ISP nag kaka problema tama but go to ISP na madaling kausap sa rebate and mabilis umaksyon sa problema. kasi kung di nila kayang ayusin sigurado ako na mag rebate yan sayo kaya di ka lugi. And ma advise ko lang sa lahat na wifi is still wifi. di parin mananalo ang wifi compared sa wired connection, mapa cable pa yan or phone line. ang problema kasi babagal talaga internet connection mo haggat dumadami ang gumagamit at nag share ng isang connection. so I would like to correct one post here na kung gagamit ka ng router eh di babagal internet connection mo. that is not true.
same with internet connection. Sana nabigyan ko kayo ng mahalagang ways to find the best ISP.

I own a internet cafe I monitored everyday the speed and most the test result is 1.5mb or 1.9mb. My lucky day I got 2.6mb and that last for 20 minutes, and after the 0.19 and 0.12mb which dial up speed is a lot more faster this kind of speed that to ashamed it call dsl. for two year my experiend with service is just like I am in hell. I experience for all most three four weeks with no internet connection and after that experience the speed is too slow. I feel so bad I got the premium commercial account that the service should be far better instead far worse and suck. Every time I called for service I am sorry the problem will forwarded to our technical team. Supervisor/ manager I spoke with the problem and made a promised the technician will be at my business site to service before the end of the day and that did not happen and they give a big lies… PLDT in whole they need to repair there total structures so they can give a good service to there customer.

I agree GLOBE BROADBAND REALLY SUCKS! We are from Laguna area… We switched from SMART to GLOBE since at that time SMART didnt offer competively 1Mbs. So it was just speed ang problem namin sa SMART. If there was a disconnection.. they can immediately fixed it..5-10min. matagal na ung 1hr. BUT WITH GLOBE, whew! 5-12 hrs no connection. Then calling their support hotline is just one HELL of a sacrifice. It will take several attempts before they answer! Now for the main issue, we only get answers of uncertain cause of the disconnection problems and all PROMISES of reconnection with no INTERIM solution and estimated connection restoration time! They even get your contact numbers such that a support will call us to monitor/check the connection restoration – - these are all HELL of lies, they did not call us not even once.

Hi I just used the usb type sun cellular mobile thing, mine is postpaid though I paid almost 2,500.00 pesos for 1 month advance and the modem for this one. Actually the Sun mobile connection here in Malabon is good as per web page browsing although I tried downloading a torrent movie file and it took me several days just to finish one. ( I just did the speedtest and I got this for the result, 0.15mb DL 0.03upload please take note it is raining cats and dogs outside )

Actually I am a hardcore gamer before I got my job right now so Internet is really a big thing for me.

I worked as an English tutor before in the Don Antonio area and my Korean student chose destiny for their ISP, at first I thought it would be good because it is not broadband. There should be no downtimes because the data is travels through a wire right? Well I guess I’m wrong because it takes a millenia before they could even load a web page. They were so frustrated.

On the other hand, I have experienced Globe Broadband for personal use when I was crazy over RAN online ( I think that was a year and a half ago. ) The internet was good though there are times when it is intermittent. It was actually a good offer for 1,299.00 for both the phone and the net.

My boyfriend works in a computer shop and their ISP provider is PLDT biz. I think that is the best connection that i have experienced in my entire life. I am fond of watching movies downloaded via torrents and a 700mb file with good seeds will only take a maximum of 1 hour compared to my SUN mobile net, 3 days.

To sum it all, I think broadband companies will work depend on the particular location where you are in. If you are in the Pangarap-Tala area, Globe is the best and here in Malabon, I would recommend PLDT and Sun Mobile Net.

I terminated my smartbro and tranferred to PLDT but PLDT is worst. They never got my bills right. They always had a problem with their main server. I had to stay on the phone from the opening to the closing of the queue to reques for an onsite technician… I give up

One thing positive with my experience so far with Smart Bro (antenae type) and Smart Bro USB Stick and Globe Broadband they work well and depend upon your location. Even PLDT for that matter. SUn DSL is the worst offender.

Unfortunately, they have a lot of improving their infrastructure from their claims of reaching 1, 2, 3 mbps which is utterly ridiculous advertising claims. They make the consuming public suckers. We should one day unite and file a class suit for robbing the public

Here in Butuan City, the WORST ISP is GLOBE WIRELESS BROADBAND. Very slow and couldnt even connect to webcam. So I had it disconnected even before I have completed my 1 year contract, and they tried to ask for pre termination fee from me, which is the remaining months of my 1yr subscription, been connected for 5 months., but they couldnt fool me I have been so stupid to being very quite with their FUCKING CONNECTION. So they agreed to just let me settle my last bill. Now, I have Bayan DSL, lil faster that GLOBE WIRELESS but atleast it has stable connection and i could use my webcam.

Agree. I had so much problems with smart bro and with sun broadband. Smart bro is very slow esp kapag may ulan. Tapos it takes forever for the bills to arrive and sometimes they double bill you. You really have to be keep track of the bills and make sure you pay smart at the smart stores kasi sometimes they don’t accredit your payments from the banks or SM for a month or two. Tapos it takes weeks for a repair crew to come and sometimes all they do is come and look for 5 minutes then leave.
With Sun broadband, the bills are on time pero its very slow. Minsan in Mandaluyong, its only 5kbps. I’m not kidding. The slowed I ever got was .11kbps. Yes. point 11. The fastest was 300kbps. And these are during non-peak hours in Mandaluyong. Tapos sira ang ZTE modem 3 times in 2 months because defective ang modem. China-made talaga. Mas tagal ang repairs lalo sa Smart!
Suggestion ko: don’t get smart bro or sun broadband if that would be your primary internet service provider.

I already tried many ISP’s here in the Philippines. Let me share some knowledge for you people what ISP to choose.

Smart Bro – Pinaka worst na ISP umulan man o umaraw walang improvements!! ANTHENA kc!! PINAKA BULOK SA MGA BULOK to promise

Sky Broadband (Zpdee) & Destiny- Kakapakabit ko lng last month ng SKY and ngayon nagsisi nq. mabilis cya pag offpeak meaning 1am – 8am… Pang adik tong sky broadband.. Sira ulo gumawa nito LOPEZ ikaw un.. ayusin mo yang ISP nyo.. masyadong bulok.. Gaming, downloding, p2p pinaka worst!! Customer Service PINKA BAD AT BULOK!! Ayusin mu sKY mo lopez SAYO pa nman ang MERALCO!!

Globe broadband wired – Good in downloading, gaming, p2p, surfing & video streaming. Forever nba yan? Customer service.. VER BAD!!

PLDT my DSL – The best ISP. very stable cya.. walang peak/offpeak hours.. kung ano ang speed mo consistent cya d cya nag babago.. best for GAMING.. and Good sa surfing downloading lahat lahat na!! d cya ganun ka bilis pero consistency ng connection ang pinag uusapan nten d2.. kaya PLDT na lng kau 1mbps and above.. ung below 1mbps wag na yun may nadidinig aq mabagal 300+kbps and 512kbps… Kung kaya nyo mag 1mbps UN NA LNG. LESS HEADACHE..

    peace

    Nice post Pol. I agree.

I’m located in QC and SmartBRO ang net namin.

Kaya I tried the 15-days trial period of Sky Broadband (1mbps plan) last August dahil nga inconsistent ang SmartBRO. Pag peak hours, para kang naka dial up.

Actually my friend told me year ago now that myPLDT Company is the best compare than other ISP. But it depends on the location of your ISP hosting panel. If your location is near around 500meter-1mile you will get a fast connection whatever traffic it is… your speed connection will be good enough to satisfied your need.
However, it would be great if you can afford to pay the maximum speed available in the market.

first off… i want to say that this is the best topic ive seen so far regarding which is which…

    (i live in Pasig)

SmartBro – this was my first ISP. mabilis sila mag setup pag kakabitan ka nila. pag may sira naman, punta sila dito sa bahay after a day or 2. just like what a lot of you experienced, takot sa ulan ang SmartBro… takot din sa eroplano lol. i noticed na pag may dadaan na eroplano, kahit gano pa kataas ang lipad, na-dc ako then balik din agad pag wala na yung eroplano. i had plan 990 back then.

Globe Broadband – i had the 1300 internet+phone. i was really happy with my connection. meron sira pa minsan pero tolerable naman.

got it installed a few years ago in pampanga (2008 i think)..tolerable naman sya kahit madalas mawalan ng connection..since di naman kami madalas makapag-net because we’re not at home 24/7..a few months after, nasira ung pole na pinagkabitan dun sa antenna dahil sa bagyo dati (i forgot the name nung bagyo)..yung father ko ang nagreport sa smartbro about the problem since i’m working in manila..after a few days, nagpunta na yung technicians nila..di rin sya nagawa that day..so pinatawag na ko ng tatay ko sa smartbro since ang tagal na di pa din nagagawa yung antenna..the csr told me na magpapadala sila ng ibang technicians to look at the problem..same result, wala din nangyari..so i called them up again, this time, sinabi nung csr na may note na galing sa technician nila na di na kayang ayusin ung problem namin..i asked her kung pano yun, may mga bills pa din na nadating e hindi naman namin nagagamit yung service nila..she told me na i-wiwave nila yung bills namin (ilang months din yun)..and she asked me kung gusto ko pa daw ba ipareinstall yung antenna..i told her wag na lang..since puro sakit lang naman ng ulo inaabot namin dun..call ended, so i thought ok na..but then, may mga bills na naman na sinesend samin..di ko na lang pinansin since akala ko di pa lang naa-update yung system nila..anyway, after a few weeks, may dumating na demand letter from smartbro’s lawyer, telling me that if i do not pay or settle my bills with them, they’re going to file criminal case against me..wtf!!so i went to their main office in ayala and told them about my issue..the bi^&* na nakausap ko told me that i had to pay my unpaid bills pa din and because di na daw ako pumayag na maireconnect yung antenna nila, i had to pay pa yung termination fee (since wala pang 1yr yung connection ko)..i kept asking her na why should i pay their services that i’ve never used?!i even told her na wi-nave na nung csr nila yung ibang fees ko since di ko naman talaga nagamit and since sinabi na nung techinician nila na di na magawa..ang sabi nya sakin, kasi daw i refused na ipareconnect..i don’t know what i was thinking back then, but i gave in and paid them..7k all in all..shiyet!!stupid me.. i was so frustrated and irritated because ayaw akong pakinggan or intindihin nung girl na nakausap ko..mali din ako kasi i yielded sa mga mukhang pera na smartbro na yun.. well, lesson learned..kaya never, as in never na ako mag-i-smartbro (for the rest of my life)..i will not be an instrument para sa pagpapamayan pa nila..kung gaano sana sila kaaggressive sa paniningil sa mga customers nial ganun din sila kaaggressive sa pagbibigay ng good quality services e di walang problema..umayos naman sana kayo..

i’m planning to get a ISP at home and still researching on the better services..but come hell or hie water, HINDING-HINDI, DID I SAY HINDI?!?, AKO MAGPAPAKABIT NG SMARTBRO!!! kahit hindi na ko magka-net forever..the end…

    hi,

:) Smile. That is the best approach to ALL CSR.

Initially, I had a NOT-SO-GOOD connection with smartbro. It was intermittent and slow. I called a couple of times and ended with somebody who would like me to do basic troubleshooting. Lucky for me I used to work as a TSR for a major US ISP. I always tell the rep not to bother as I have done it all. I would not call anyway if it is something local.

I told them that I need to be assigned to a different Access Point as my current is dropping me. The 1st CSR said it could not be done. I hanged up.

I called again and got a lady who is more than willing to create a ticket for me. The next day a tech came over to redirect my canopy modem to a different AP. They also tweaked the canopy to have a better download speed for me.

My choices here is limited since I am in Sorsogon City. In NCR, there should be about 8 – 14 AP to choose from. Just smile when you talk to the rep and if you think this rep is not so helpful, call again until you get somebody who is technical enough or conscientious enough to get you your request.

In toto, it still boils down to the agent that you get routed to. :p

NEED HELP on setting up iPhone 3G Unlocked from AT&T.

Hi I sent my wife a AT&T unlocked (or openline you called it) iPhone 3G 8gb. she needs help how to set up the iphone to be able to access internet (using prepaid sim) and be able to send MMS. I already called and contacted globe quite few times (but everytime in the middle of conversation we kept on disconecting- maybe I need to go to Smart huh? lol) and in some other times I was able to talk to their customer support, and the Globe customer representative told me she couldn’t help me after I told her that the iPhone was not purchased at Globe and it was from AT&T. She also told me that my wife needs to take the iphone to one of their Globe Business Center (Davao) so they can set up the iPhone and tweak the settings. I was hesitant because the phone is currently running on 3.1.2 firmware which is unlockable, and if they ever update the iphone to 3.1.3 (here in U.S) the unlocked for that firmware isn’t available not yet, although I don’t know what or how are you guys do it there in Philippines to open a line (unlock) an iphone. Anybody could help her get the phone set up or if you know anybody that works at globe that knows how to do it.Once the problem is solved, I will send you a PHP 500 or More (Depending on the complexity of the set-up) worth of load via Chikka iSend (your choice to Globe and Smart) You can text me on my Roaming (globe) 0916-317-8023 I can also call you around 10am Phil time, or you can email me just contact the blog admin,Salamat po Bossing, I do check my email most of the time(except when I am at work or sleeping) philippine time is 13 hours ahead of us. so if you are texting / email me at 12 noon there its 11Pm here. Smart Bro is fine over here in Baguio, although i’ve never tried other ISPs before so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I haven’t experienced any problems until recently, probably because of that underwater cable problem or my new comp (sure, lots of storage. But not exactly befitting for me. Our old comp was better). Everyone in the house uses lap tops, so we use wi-fi. It was fine when we were newly introduced to the concept but later on it started getting crappier. Well, the brand of the router isn’t really all that nice so I wouldn’t really directly blame it all on smart.

When i stayed at the U.S. for awhile, internet wasn’t all that different. Only the download speed but i don’t really mind as all i ever download are small stuff. Accelerators can take care of it.

Personally i can blame a lot of people for the crappy internet here but i’d rather deal with it. It’s not like I’d die from having slow internet.

While Apple’s 3.1.3 firmware was minor in terms of new features, it’s had the side effect of opening up a huge market for scam sites. These sites will promise you a 3.1.3 jailbreak for newer devices like the iPod touch 3G, or a baseband 05.12 software unlock. Those desperate enough to “just give it a shot” will find, 100% of the time, that they were misled. After money has changed hands they’ll be told “well the 05.12 unlock is coming, in the meantime here’s the 05.11 unlock” (of course the 05.11 unlock was intended to be free, as you all know). They’ll hold your money until one day the 05.12 unlock does come out, even if that’s months later (and of course it’ll be relehxxp www(dot)unlock-iphone-313(dot)com ased for free on ). In the meantime they’ll be able to claim they gave you part of what they advertised, and keep at least part of your money (in actuality they’ll usually keep all of it).

( I just hope mabasa nyo ng buo ang letter ko kse sobra po talagang haba…sorry po mga sir and maam, give me some advice and feedbacks )

I want to thank you Sir Jehzeel for this blog, I can finally share my experience and angst about my ISP. @#*% Grrr!

I will share my experience with PLDT MyDSL first. When I applied for their bundle 888 ( 3 years ago ), okay naman connection nila. ( we’re living here in Pandacan, Manila by the way ). There was 1 time na-cut ang line ko na wala pa namang due date and when I asked the CS they told me, “System Error lang sir.” I don’t have internet connection for the next 30 days and when the next billing came, may additional charge na for change-of-line daw. I told the CS, how can that be same pa rin tel number at IP address ko. Same answer, system error lang daw. Ng di nila maalis alis sa billing ko yun for several months, I decided na end ko na ties ko with them. Then a demand letter from their lawyer came, sagutin ko nga, di napahiya ang firm at ibabalik na lang daw nya account ko sa PLDT.

Then I transfered to SUN Broadband, hoping I can get a better connection. Bakit ba hindi, e pinagmamalaki nila that every user has an allocation of NOT LOWER THAN 300 KBPS (capslock ko na talaga) burstable of UP TO 2MBPS. Wowwww naman. Sarap pakinggan (postpaid po ako).

Nung first few months, ayos naman. I was impressed when I saw that my torrent download speed goes up to 200+ kbps.

I upgraded it to CoreDuo, with 2gb RAM. Nung

I installed Win7 kse kaya naman, but I dont have my usual speed. I called Sun CS and told me to change it to XP, so reformat ulit ako. Sadly, same pa rin.

Its almost a month now, and I only got 4 – 6 kbps out of 300 kbps they promise. Haay!!

Yahoo, Google at FB nga 2 mins bago bumukas.

I will try Globe Tatto and Smart Bro dito sa lugar namin to see the difference. Nakahiram na ako ng mga modem eh.

    Help naman……

wala sa klase ng os ang speed ng internet mapa XP ka man o Windows 7 same. sinong nagsabi na pag binalik mo sa xp bibilis ang speed? sakalin mo yung nagsabi na cs. ke bago o luma ang pc pag mabagal speed mabagal. end of story. DI OS DEPENDENT AND SPEED NG INTERNET. kahit palitan mo pa ng quadcore i7 pc mo kung simbilis lang ng lakad and speed ng kaya ibigay ng isp mo forget it.

    Reply

    Grapesoda Reply:

Depende rin sa Os ang bilis dahil ang XP kaunti lang ports na open, 10 lang ata., so if you know how to open a lot of ports it will speed up your internet. the reason why XP’s open ports are at default to 10 is because of viruses. mahina ang defense and windows know it.
So technically XP’s internet speed is inferior to later OSs…

You can search some website on how to open the XP ports up to 1000++ using DOS. But it will put your pc at risk. But will speed up your internet connection.

The only prob. is, sometimes i cant connect to any site, looks like i lost a connection and needs a couple of restarts and for streaming and downloading they get affected if a lot is using the same ISP. But i think it really happened in all ISPs.

Besides 80KBps? I’m getting (or was) getting 300+ for Globe WiMax via bittorent. Kung Fi-Ops nga yan it should go way beyond that… tsk! ISPs in the Philippines are really at it.

I am actually using plan 1998 (2mbps) with 12GB cap limit. As for me, I haven’t got any problems with the service. Their customer care are well trained. In fact, they have the most courteous and professional technical support I have encountered for an internet service provider. My problem is that there are times that the connection fluctuates and instead of getting the full speed that I should be getting, I am getting only 25% (700 Kbps). Also, we are 5 in the family that sometimes share the connection at one point. 12GB of capacity is so easy to consume most especially if you are a heavy downloader. In just 3 days I found out that I was already consuming 10 GB, None of us don’t even download movies nor watch streaming videos!!! So to all of you who are planning to acquire this product, then better step back and think twice if you don’t want to be lured to another provider that won’t return your money’s worth.

I think naka rely ang connection depende sa area, connection speed you subscribed on, sa ISP, at sa OS operation sytem at specs ng pc ng user…

Kung magsusubscribe ka pa lang, make some research about sa area mo, magtanung ka sa mga kapitbahay na naka subscribe na at hingiin mo yung opinion about them, second go to the main office about ISP at makipagusap ng maayos about ur concern, sana lang yung mga nasa CS ay mga IT tlga na madaming alam tungkol sa technical issue when it comes to this services, usally kasi dinadaan ka lang nila sa charm… For example your main concern is gaming, or just web browsing,dl..etc…

now i’m using smartbro, after 6 months of subscribing to them, ngayon lang ako nagkaron ng problema with their speed and connection. i’ve been calling their customer service for 3 weeks now, reporting about the frequent internet interruption at mas mabagal pa sa snail na may hika sa bagal ang internet speed.

Cabled connection kasing mahal ng wireless connection(broadband)???? cabled connection can provide 10 times more faster than broadband in terms of their maximum capabilities.

To provide some chances sa iba, nagbigay sila ng memo.

Kaya research na lan, what is best in your location. (In my experience masmarami ang bad connection sa good   )

I’m a Skybroadband user. Share ko lang.

Nung pinakabit ko siya, September 18 2010, pinakita nung nagkabit yung speed niya through speedtest.net then lumabas 1.44mbps.

The fact is around 150 to 200 yung ping mo.

May sakit din to e, yung 2-5 times disconnect per day.

Hehe. Sige bye.

as far as I know, dipende yan sa location mo. taga las pinas ako and PLDT MyDSL works great kompera sa Globe at smart at 1.5mbps connection, ang globe at smart malaki ang burst speed (mga 5-10 sec. ng download) sa exp. ko naka-abot ng 400kbps tapos pa baba ng pa baba hanggang mag steady siya sa 55% to 70% ng bandwidth mo. (1500 kilobytes per second connection speed / 8 bytes = to your max download speed +- 4 to 8 kbps) so sa 55 to 70% ng max download speed mo pag globe ka at smart ang labas niyan is 103.125 kbps to 131.25 kbps ang steady download ng globe at smart. sa PLDT MyDSL naman pag nag-download ako parating mag start sa 1kbps to 20 kbps tapos palaki ng palaki ang download speed ko hangang mag max sa download speed ko which is for a 1500kbps connection speed is 187.5 kbps, minsan 192kbps ang max download speed ko.. at ang maganda pa diyan is… hangang matapos ang download ko yan ang speed niya.. hindi katulad sa naranasan ko sa globe at smart na erratic ang download speed. which sinabi ko na 55 to 70% ang range ng steady download speed nilang dalawa.

If you are like me using Smart Bro and only getting dial-up speeds, the first thing you should do do is complain directly to the NTC using their website, ntc.gov.ph. If you search ntc.gov.ph with google, may direct link papunta sa complaint form nila.

I also made a facebook page called ‘Smart Bro are Thieves’, because this is the most common remark I seem to find on the internet. If you are like me and feel that Smart is stealing your hard earned money, please visit and like my page at:

I agree that it depends on the area, Keep in mind though that whichever ISP you get, there will always come a time that something will go wrong. That’s why my advice is to consider their customer support.

PLDT has, by far, the worst customer service, calling them involves a 15-30 minute hold time. After which, your call will get picked up by an agent, IT WILL GET DISCONNECTED immediately. No one will call you back so do not wait for that. It’s been years since I was last with them but I still come across people with similar experience.

Smart is not much better, they’ll give the run around whenever their services are down and you ask when they’ll have things running again. I know someone who didn’t get any service for 3 weeks but Smart still had the nerve to bill the entire month.

Globe has really shitty after sales service, customer service calls will often get disconnected as well. No call backs either. Shit service too.

Sun isn’t any better same as their other company digitel, not very customer friendly at all.

Of the many ISP’s that I have tried Bayantel had the most decent customer service, they aren’t perfect but at least they give most of what you’d expect from a company you pay to keep you online. The only problem is that they have severely limited presence outside of metro Manila.

My final advice is that if you have no other choice and you only have to choose from PLDT, Globe, Smart or some other ISP that you know has shitty customer Service, get fake documents when applying. This way, you do not have to keep getting ass raped by your ISP should your relationship turn sour before your lock in period runs out. Just pay what you’ve used and leave.

As you can also see sa post, wala ka mababasang super negative comments. Meaning, talagang maganda siya. It may be slow for congested areas, pero very minimal to no downtime at all.

For those who are not sure what to get, lahat naman halos ng provider eh may trial eh. Go for the the trial first, tanong tanong din sa kapitbahay, kasi it also depends on the area.

So, get the trial first.OBSERVE then DECIDE. Goodluck!

Wireless connections especially those that use USB dongles are pretty useless especially kung sa urban area ka nakatira and madami kayong gumagamit. My friends and I were able to locate several signal towers from Globe, Smart and Sun and signal is good but internet speed is still no where near the published rate even when you are practically next to the tower. And that’s for all of them. The connection is shared with other subscribers so it makes it next to impossible na mareach ung 2mbps. Most of the time nasa less than 40kbps lang nakukuha, para lang mas mastress kung gaano kabagal yan, >15 years ago dial up ang gamit ng mga tao, 56kb speed nun. taga santolan-pasig ako, tanong din, ano ang pinaka-ok na broadband sa location namin?
matatapos na ang 2 yrs bond ko sa mabagal na smart bro (canopy), upto 2 mbps daw but pag mag dload ako sa torrent, average of 55kbps lang and pag direct download, average is 60-70kbps dati, pero ngayon 40kbps na lang (yan un last download ko).. tama ba un para sa upto 2mbps nila.. alam ko na hindi talaga 2mbps ang makukuha ko.sabi sakin, to calculate your download speed, INTERNET SPEED/8, but pag cinalculate ko un 55kbps na yan, wala pa sa 512kbps ang speed ng connection ko, what the..ang naging problem ko lang kay smart is dati, un binigay nila na power adapter ng canopy ko, 5 minutes before mag-on, akala ko normal lang un.. until it took 30 minutes para mag-on then hanggang hindi na sya nag-on, it took 2 weeks bago ma-replace ang adaptor and take note, nung tumawag ako sa kanila, pinapatroubleshoot pa un LAN CARD ok and pinapatry sa other desktop or laptop, ang SABI KO NGA IS PANO KO MATTRY KUN ANG MISMONG ADAPTER NG CANOPY IS HINDI NAG-OON hanggang sa hinold ako forever. Best lesson ko is not to call those f***ing agent (alam naman natin na may SOP sila but they should always put theirselves as a customer and owner as well for the business) but to go to smart center at dun magalit
