first download winrar from

install it on your PC, then you can open any zipped file that you want to open
you can also try winzip.com, but i highly recommend winrar, because it can unarchive not only zip files

indeed, NDS can only play NDS files. Inside that ZIP archive is a single .NDS file.
You should extract the ZIP file first in order for you to have your NDS file.
You can use winrar to extract that ZIP file, so that you can get the NDS file inside the zip file…

hi, i was wondering if you had any experience with using r4ds and a macintosh? I have both and want to put new themes on my r4. If my micro sd and r4 were first used on a pc can I now use it on a mac?

i do not understand how the r4 card works. if i get 1 how would i download ANY game i want using this website and do i need a special program on the computer to drag and drop it onto the r4 card file, whenever i do this kind of thing it never works , for example my mp3 ?

I have visited your site and down loaded a game. My problem is, I don’t know what to do next. Do I have to unzip the game before I copy it to my sd card or will the DS unzip as it plays. I tried opening it and my pc doesn’t recognize the file format. I tried the link on the page to unzip but couldn’t get any where.

You should unzip it first.. you should download a software to unzip the game, like winrar from http://www.rarlab.com or winzip from winzip.com

Thanks for reply. I have tried both WinZip and winrar, also pkzip. None of them recognize the format. I have down loaded a few games from your site but until I am able to unzip them I will not be able to play them. Can you tell me if I am right in assuming that when unzipped I just copy the files to my micro sd card. I am nearly sixty and this is very confusing

@anonymous - maybe you’ve downloaded a corrupt or incomplete NDS file. Try downloading the unzipped NDS files on my list. It should work just fine…

@jesus`beloved - for me i prefer PSP, because I love the design, the outer design, but I think NDS games are better than PSP..
Based on professional reviews, NDS lite is better than PSP.

@randy - just click the links that i’ve provided, and it will automatically downloaded to your PC. Copy the downloaded .NDS file, and paste it to your NDS lite.

@lucille - u nid a USB chord to connect your NDS to your PC, and be able to copy games from your PC to your NDS lite
@ryan - i’m a bit confused with your question. You mean all of the games that you’ve downloaded here don’t work???
@jer - yes you can, if there’s an available R4DS with higher memory in the market
@mark mcconell - you should have an R4DS in order to play free games. Hmmmmmm? So what you’re trying to say is that your NDS lite doesn’t want you to play games that are downloaded here? only purchased games that are original and genuine?

Ok your a pretty smart guy i read the cooment on using winrar to unzip a game i try it and every time i put it on my games n’ music and the game pops up a whit screen on the ds and doesnt load. can you tell me whats wrong?

Hi this is a very useful site and I’m amazed at what you’ve done and how helpful you are.
For those on Mac systems the only way to open a zip file is if they have Stuffit deluxe which can open zip files easier than winrar. Just drag and drop and it’s open. They then have to transfer the nds file to a windows pc as the Mac OS will not recognize the RT chip and will ask you to format the disk (which you don’t want to do). Once you transfer the file to a pc then you just copy your files to the rt chip and you’re good to go.

- Hi anonymous, You need a USB chord to connect your NDS lite to your PC. It’s just like connecting a flash drive and copying files by selecting the specific file, highlight it, and copy it. You can copy a file by pressing CTRL+C, or highlight the files, then right click it, and press Copy. Go to your NDS window (after plugging your NDS lite onto your PC), then paste the said files, or press CTRL+V.

- Hi anonymous, maybe you’ve unzipped it in a different directory, and you’re looking to a different directory after unzipping the file. Try to unzip it within the directory where the zip file was located. If you have winrar, right click the .ZIP file, the choose “EXTRACT HERE”. I hope this helps…

- Hi anonymous, I think you’ve deleted your _DS_MENU.DAT file. You need to download a new R4 Kernel here: http://www.r4ds.com/download-en.htm. I you need help of how to download and unzip those files, kindly leave a comment. Thanks

They then have to transfer the nds file to a windows pc as the Mac OS will not recognize the RT chip and will ask you to format the disk (which you don’t want to do). Once you transfer the file to a pc then you just copy your files to the rt chip and you’re good to go.

After downloading and decompressing the new updated files, there will be one moonshl folder and two files _DS_MENU.DAT, _DS_MSHL.NDS.Copy these files to the root directory of TF card to replace the former files, or if you deleted the former files, just copy and paste the new files, it should be fine by then…
@jefta - it’s just because rom-site.com has a limited bandwidth and/or CPU usage in their webhost, that’s why they limit file downloads to prevent havoc of their webhost ^_^

@lauren redito - moonshell is a software to play videos onto your NDS lite…
You can download moonshell with DPG tools here.
Once you’ve downloaded MoonShell onto your Windows PC you’ll need to extract the Zip file and run “setup.exe” this will open the setup program, from here you need to choose your output directory where the NDS files will be output to. Once it’s been run you should have three files created. These files are:
* _BOOT_MP.nds
* _BOOT_MP_SC.nds
* _BOOT_MP_SmallM3SD.nds
Copy the relevant NDS file to your flash card and insert everyting into you Nintendo DS and turn it on, now run the file you copied.
You should see some information on the top screen scroll down before a Graphical Interface appears on the top and bottom screens. If this has worked then you have got Moonshell working fine.

Okay i have read all the responses here and am still having issues , hoping someone can Help. I got something from wal mart called Games n’ music for the Ds, I have downloaded and unzipped 4 different games and added them to the card (2 games from this site 2 from another) When i double click them to start the game all it does is goes to either a white screen or black screen and i cant do anything but power off.

After I download the game, I try to put it on my max media player and it doesn’t work. I tried to download Mario cart and bubble bobble and after the download it says run, save or cancel I chose to run and my navigaiton is canceled. What do I need to do?

Iv been readin through all comments everyone has left and u might think I am thick when u hear what Im about to ask you, and you are probably tired of explaining this over and over but would it be possible if you could either explain AGAIN everything to me on here or by E-mail (preffered),that i need to buy,down load basically everything I need to beable to have all those games put onto my ds?????????????

Iv only had my NDS sinse yesterday,never really played one b4 and bought one on an impulse after having a go on my girlfriends one 2 days ago and liked it!
All that cam with my DS was the console and the charger, no memory card or n e thing. and I cant even see where a memory card will slot into!
Do you think u could help me please? and also let me know wat and where to get the additional items i need and basically explain how to use it all??
Does all this also affect the DS in any way, or is it all pretty harmlss to the DS?

have read many q’s and a’s on here and am still a little confused as to :
i have a games n music card for the ds, my understanding is that you can download the games from your site(already unzipped) then drag n drop to the card via usb.
