Need Suggestions on Parts of a Desktop PC

I’m planning to buy myself a Desktop PC this Christmas from HP and I’m contemplating between an HP Pavilion Elite m9299d Desktop PC or HP Pavilion s3690d Slimline PC. But I realized that I can save more If I assemble my own Desktop PC. I need suggestions from PC/Hardware geeks or not geeks out there of what parts to buy for maximum PC performance (on gaming, photo editing, video editing, eating, swimming, and everything that we can do inside Milky Way Galaxy).



I’m eyeing on an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor , 2 GB DDR2 Memory (or 4GB if I can make use of it), and 1TB SATA HDD. I don’t know what Motherboard to buy, what Graphics Card to buy (nVidia GeForce, ATI Radeon or any better??), and other important specs of a PC to consider. My reason why I’m buying an HP Pavilion is to have my very own 24″ HD Widescreen LCD, because it’s free when you buy an HP Desktop PC. (It’s worth Php20k+ if you’ll buy an PH Widescreen LCD alone)

If I can save more bucks and create a more powerful PC, why not assemble my own and maximize the value of my money and the performance of my very own personal computer.

So the main specs and parts of my dream PC are:
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor
1 TB SATA HDD
2GB DDR2 Memory / 4GB DDR2 Memory
HP 24″ High Definition Widescreen LCD
Wireless Logitech Keyboard and Mouse
Tower Case = Need a slim one, but I don’t have any idea what to buy.
Motherboard = No Idea
Graphics Card = No Idea
Wireless Card = (I’m still skeptical to buy a WLAN card or just buy an External Linksys Wireless-N Adapter.)
And… Just add more parts if necessary.

I hope someone here can suggest what are the best specs for a PC (And what’s the possible total cost) to obtain maximum performance, stability, durability and all lity lity. Hehehe.

Any PC part suggestion or recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

    • e…. gusto ko magkaroon ng desktop eh.. sawa na ako sa laptops. next time na kasi daming nag silabasan na new laptops.. pag bibilhin ko yung isang laptop, may bago ulit na lalabas.. baka next year na me bibili ulit ng laptop 😯

      • eto.. kung gusto mo ng pang gaming tutal mayaman ka o mapera ka.. mag pa set up ka ng intel i7. yung latest gen series.. siguradong mahal yon pero siguradong malakas yon..

        pwede ka rin sa mas murang klase ng processor set.. si amd.. amd ryzen syempre yung latest din na series..

        then tsaka mo isipin kung anong motherboard ang akma sa processor mo
        isunod mo ang videocard. kung nag gagames ka na online tulad ng PUBG PC.. tignan mo yung max requirements nya.. dun mo i akma ang videocard mo or mas higitan mo pa.

        then memory.. pa check mo kung ilan ang maximum memory ng set up na ginawa mo. then bilihin mo yung max nya..

        sabihin mo mag atx ka na motherboard. para madaming slot ng memory.. minsan ang max memory hinahati sa ilang piraso. tulad halimbawa.. max memory 32gb. 2x16gb or 4x8gb. sample yan

        pag dating sa storage device mo. gumamit ka ng sdd card. yun ang mabilis na ngayon na klase ng storage device.. hindi na hdd..
        ginagamit yon specially sa system.. halimbawa.. naka sdd 240gb or sdd 480gb ka.

        syempre wag mo kalimutan ang power supply.. ang set up na yan malamang umaabot sa 800watts or more.. im not sure sa exact basta mataas na ang wattage ng set up na yan.. kaya mangangailangan ka siguro ng 1000watts. syempre piliin mo yung may 80% efficiency silver or gold na power supply.. para sigurado na hindi ka bibiguin or matagal ang lifetime ng powersupply mo..

        lahat yan isasalpak sa isang atx casing syempre.. dapat yung maganda na klase na ng atx casing mo..

        kulang mo nalang dyan.. Monitor mouse and keyboard..

        OH AYAN MAG SET UP KA NA!

    wala me alam sa motherboards, graphics cards, etc kuya, kasi di ko alam eh. sowi can’t suggest sa parts 😮

  4. I suggest na stay away from Nvidia Motherboards. Kasi may problema, problemang di ko alam, pero basta may nabasa me dati na may topak ang Nvidia motherboards na nirelease at yung mga built in sa HP tablets at pavilion laptops.

    Go for an Intel DX48BT2 Motherboard, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, or any ECS motherboards.

    For Video Cards, ATI Radeon or XFX GeForce. Yung latest na XFX nalang kuya, yung GeForce GTX 260 something, basta yun yun…

    For Processor, Intel Quad Core na sinabi mo sa post mo, oks na oks na yun, or yung andoon sa drawing mo na Intel Extreme, sobrang ok na yan for gaming and 3D. Ewan ko lang kung maghahang sya

    For memory, Mushkin or Corsair na DDR2, yan yung known brands eh. Pwede din Kingston 🙂

    I think that’s all muna. Pag may tanong ka pa text me, or samahan nalang kita bumili ng parts then libre mo me :mrgreen:

    Btw, if you’re planning to buy or assemble a PC for extreme performance I suggest you to buy an AMD Cheap, because it’s more powerful and more reliable than intel based on CNET Reviews. Go for an AMD Phenom 9950 2.6 GHz. It’s more powerful than Intel’s Extreme Processor. As for the Memory and Motherboard, Zainey has good suggestions about it.

    If you want a ready-made, super-powerful desktop, check alien ware’s line up of gaming desktops. I bet, it will surely make you wow. Price range starts from $1,000 up.

    • 2GB x 3? bali 6GB ang RAM? magagamit ko ba sya kahit di ako 64-BIT? mga nabasa ko kasi mga 64-BIT lang nakaka maximize ng 4GB ram or more.. pag 32-BIT, less than or equal to 3GB lang dapat, tama ba? nyok..

      or dapat mag 64-BIT ako pag ganun ka ganda specs ko? :mrgreen:

      • Oh i see.. anong nangyari sa laptop mo? ba’t namamatay? nagrerestart ba magisa? or battery problem? have you try reformating your laptop? (if mabagal kasi, need lang reformat and cleaning up PC. baka madami na virus or spyware?) anong specs and brand ng laptop mo? =)

      • TX 1000, nawawala wala ang ang wifi, namamatay matay ang laptop 😀 may hardware problem daw sabi ng HP support, kelangan ko dalhin sa service center 😀

        base din sa mga reviews bulok talaga HP TX series lalo na mother board, dmai ko nabasa sa forums eh 😀 lahat kami same problem, at di pa na sosolusyonan ng HP til now.. 😀 at di din nila ina ayos, kaya di ko nalang din ipa pa ayos, kasi yung iba mga 3 to 5 months bago nakuha, pag ka kuha sira parin D: yoko na umasa sa mga ganun, kaya bibili nalang me new PC 😀

        na reforrmat ko na to, la parin nangyari kasi hardware problem 😀 laruan ko nalang to :mrgreen:

      • namamatay matay lang sya kasi may problema sa hardware 😛 yun ang sabi ng HP kelangan ko daw ipa ayos pero yoko na ipa ayos kasi matatagalan sa service center, kaya pinag tyatyagaan ko nlang kahit nama matay matay.. di ko kasi to ino off. kahit isang buwan na naka on, naka on parin, kaya ayun tuloy nag o off, kasi mainit na ata ang processer, me thinks.. 😀

        walang pahinga kasi tong laptop ko, parang desktop :mrgreen:

      • Nice specs. Tips lng po: Wak keung kukuha ng ECS na motherboard. Cheap low class po siya. Kuha po kayo ng gigabyte or intel na board. Kung gaming Rig po sita, 4gig ram, 1gb graphics (NOT AGP, PCI Express).

        OPTIONAL: HYDRO/WATER COOlING SYSTEM – KEEPS YOUR COMPUTER ULTRA COOl KAHIT 3 DAYS STR8 na keung nagP-PC whether gaming pa yan o hindi XD

      • thanks jesse 😀 takot ako dyans a water cooling system, baka biglang mag leak at mabasa ang mother board ko 😀 yung sa office namin kahit isang taon naka on yung mga server di naman nasisira pag may aircon, kaya ok lang cguro kahit walang hydro cooler :mrgreen:

  13. May budget ka naman eh, intel na rin motherboard para optimum performance, friend. Pick a wireless router, para if on a whim kasi sobra pa naman ang pera mo bumili ka ng notebook e di ayos. You can surf in in your closet, your bathroom, maski sa labas sa garden nyo. At bumili ka na rin ng UPS. Ang saya ng Pasko mo. 😀

    If you’ll notice nag open me ng blog sa blogger. I know I must be shot in the head for this. I am so clueless – huhuhu. I’m still brainstorming (storm lng pala, no brain activity involved) about my domain name. Yun po usapan natin ha, I hope valid pa rin un kasi I am still seriously interested. Getting the feel of blogging lang un sa blogger. Praktis, praktis. :mrgreen:

    • may linksys wireless router na me, wireless N router sya 😀 yung latest nila.. nyok, matagal na to sa akin, kaya di na to latest, latest nila nung binili ko noon.. hehehe.. may laptop din me, kaya desktop nalang need ko. 😀 umiikot ikot din me sa bahay kasi covered naman ng wifi ko buong apartment 😀 nyok nyok 😀

      UPS din meron na.. nyok 😀

  14. I won’t be upgrading in the near future so I can’t give advice on specific products. But based on what you have written, here’s what I can say:

    memory: go for dual-channel 4 GB DDR3, 2 GB is just “standard” today. Unless you have a 64-bit OS, you can’t go over 4 GB.

    motherboard: para sakin ASUS pa din. unless you’re an overclocker, any board with many expansion slots would do.

    Graphics card: SLI Nvidia but make sure u have a good cooling system. Meron nang 4-in-1 video card pero sobra-sobra na un

    case: depends on the motherboard and your plans of upgrading/adding more components. malaki din space kelangan sa video cards + cooling system

    for gaming, you need Vista to play DX10-exclusive games like Crysis. Pero balita ko kahit high-end systems di kaya ang max settings ng GTAIV sa PC e. hehe 😀

    nung naghahanap din kami ng good pc parts, asus daw. ASUS! malay ko ba kung bakit… sa graphics palit daw, ung iba inno3d, but ung mas okay daw XFX (graphics, not board), ewan ko rin kung bakit…

    so far, ok na sa akin ung nabili ng kuya ko… it works to its purpose… heto specs…

    C2D 2.53GHz
    250 GB
    2GB DDR2 Memory
    ASUS 15″ (aus lng ito, cute nga eh, toink… pero not suitable for graphics artists)
    a4tech (basic) kboard and mouse
    ordinary case, basta may fan 🙂

    Graphics Card = wala, built-in pa lang

    …kaya nga sabi ko nakakalula mga specs niyo… pakiramdam ko nga mataas na specs ng binili ng kuya ko eh… heto ung current personal personal computer ko… (personal PC, hehe redundancy)

    board = got no idea, haha… binuo ng gateway eh.
    256mb ram
    13GB
    ordinary kb, mouse, case, avr, graphics (hehe)

    ngayon ko lang nalaman na i’m living in the past… 😆

    • ok na ba ang specs na yan? hindi nag hahang? similar ang specs ng laptop ko dyan, kaso palaging nag hahang, di kaya mag edit ng 3D images sa swift 3D or 3D Studio Max, pag ipag sabay ko iTunes at photoshop at firefox at ultra edit at apache, di na kaya 😥

    • intel i7 is too expensive for me 😀 Unless intel will offer that god-like processor to me for free in exchange for a review 😯 hehehe…

      i’m a not-so-hard core gamer :mrgreen: (gamer lang ng flash games, haha) kaya di ko na bibilhin yung super mahal na parts na yan.. ^__^ for photo editing lang naman, programming and web browsing and PC ko :mrgreen:

    • kahit di ko masyadong alam yung mga features ng mother board na yan, mukhang maganda ah.. 😀 Rampage II, mga magkano kaya ang SRP nyan? 😀

      awwwwwww.. yeah I have a Linksys WUSB54GC, pero plano ko na bilhin na Wireless Adapater yung Wireless-N ng linksys, i think mas ok yun, malaki ngal ang, parang antenna 😯

      Nvidia for gaming? mukhang maganda nga. pero etong Nvidia motherboard ng TX nag loloko, baka sa TX tablets lang 😥 malas talaga ng TX ko T_T

  29. overclocking has many advantages pero in risk yung CPU mo, although core i7 is very adaptive sa overclocking, the threat still remains. Ok lang po mag overclocking, pero try to think po muna kung para saan ang purpose ng overclocking. Sa pagkakaalam ko po kasi, overclocking is done for rendering very large amount of details sa isang 3D animation. =)

    STORAGE: Seagate 1TB 32MB SATA

    You can also opt for Intel Core i7, mga around 65,000.00 ang cheapest total. Prices are based sa local computer stores dito sa pinas. 🙂

    For CD Drive pala bago ko makalimutan, I suggest this worth $200 Blu-ray drive, para astig, so aabutin ka ng around 75k to 80k, pero super powerful naman ang computer mo 🙂

      • Hehe pero with your budget sobra na ang 30K jan i have my bayaw for 25K QUAD core na at 320gb ung HD and xempre malupet na ung VC and don’t forget naka LCD Monitor xa with HDMI

Hmmm.. dude since napadaan lang ako dito hehe tip kulang sau kung hindi kanaman talaga extreme graphics designer and extreme gamer kahit Core 2 Duo ok na pero kung gusto mo talaga ng extreme machine hehe mag Core 2 Quad kana mura nalang ngaun yan sa videocard naman halos lahat maganda Nvidia, ATI basta halos lahat maganda kumuha kanalang ng 1gb na GDDR3 or GDDR5 hehe sa tipidpc.com madame dun nag bebenta mga 10k below tapos MoBo mo Intel nalang yun lang hardisk mura na mga hardisk ngaun. kung bibili ka ng ganyan makaka discount kapa actually sa lahat naman ng mga pc store nag bibgay na cla ng free na keyboard and mouse tapos meron namang mga casing na may kasamang PSU hehe…
