Maytag Corporation has been known to be manufacturing various appliances. It is $4.7 billion home and commercial appliance company, headquartered in Newton, Iowa from 1893 to 2006, and now part of the Whirlpool Corporation.

One if these appliances is the dishwasher. Few days ago, Thursday to be specific, over 1.7 million Maytag Dishwashers was recalled. The company has received 12 reports of electrical failures in the dishwasher heating element that led to fires and damage. One of which is a kitchen fire that has caused a lot or damage.

The company has offered two options to its clients. They have the option of either have the free in-home repair or receive a rebate of $150 or $250 depending on the model bought. If your dishwasher is still new, better have the in-hone repair but if it’s quite old, better have the rebate option and get a new one.

The recall involves Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand dishwashers with plastic tubs. These were sold at department and appliance stores nationwide from February 2006 through April 2010. They approximately cost between $250 and $900.

Serial numbers involved in the recall can be found at the company’s website or the website for the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
