Somebody Accused Me of Using Blackhat SEO technique, woot!
An anonymous person accused me of using Blackhat SEO techniques because he/she found out that I’m using “Hidden Links”, which is NOT true. Nonetheless, I’m using links with a background color that is almost the same hue as the text link. It’s just ALMOST, not the same. I have a footer link from PRC Board Exam Results website, which has a color of F5F5F5 over FFFFFF, same with the footer link at savant.ph website. For example, check the lower part of my sidebar for a phrase, containing the words “Value Hotels in the Philippines“. As you’ve noticed, it’s seemingly like an invisible text, but it’s not. This anonymous person is kinda jealous I think, or curious why I’m on the top spot that’s why he/she traced my back links and did some sort of investigation of how did I maintain the top spot for a specific keyword.
I know you’re afraid to reveal your true identity, because your not sure if I’m really into Blackhat SEO or not, or your just afraid for some reason that I really don’t know, hehehe. I hope next time you’ll comment, put your name and a link to your blog, so that I can brief you which is invisible or not. Double check it first to see if it’s really invisible. Maybe you need to see an Eye Doctor.

regardless of the color of a website’s SEO strategy, one must simply look around and study how things are working for that site and personally decide if he wants to adopt that technique to his own domain
such anonymous comments are usually grown out of jealousy and frustration at his own less successful SEO
time is better spent at improving one’s personal performance rather than accusing and finding blame in others

Thinking what this “Black Hat” vs “White Hat” SEO thing is all about…firing up wikipedia, I must say it is a “Black Hat SEO” technique based on the definition.
Defined as:
Black hat SEO attempts to improve rankings in ways that are disapproved of by the search engines, or involve deception. One black hat technique uses text that is hidden, either as text colored similar to the background, in an invisible div, or positioned off screen. Another method gives a different page depending on whether the page is being requested by a human visitor or a search engine, a technique known as cloaking.

The text is not invisible. It was so ridiculous that the anonymous person treated is as an invisible text, maybe he didn’t see it on the first place.
As defined in SEO books, and manuals, here are the conditions if your using Black Hat
- Keyword stuffing: Packing long lists of keywords and nothing else onto your site will get you penalized eventually by search engines.
- Invisible text: This is putting lists of keywords in WHITE TEXT on a WHITE BACKGROUND in hopes of attracting more search engine spiders.
- Doorway Pages: A doorway page is basically a “fake” page that the user will never see. It is purely for search engine spiders, and attempts to trick them into indexing the site higher.
The text that you’ve used is gray over white, so it’s very obvious that it’s not HIDDEN. It’s just in the users eyes if their vision is quite blurry.

What you’re doing is purely White Hat SEO technique. The text is clearly seen. It depends on the users monitor, if they adjusted it in a super bright manner, of course, they cannot see a gray text with white background, and also a black background with grayish text.

You’re technique depends on users’ perspective. If they can’t see the links, they will judge it as black hat, without verifying furthermore if it’s really a Black Hat SEO practice.
I suggest you to use another font color instead of light gray. You can use a darker gray color, so that the majority of the users can see it. The screens’ brightness is another factor that’s why other people can’t see it.
In my side, I can see it clearly. But, you should consider the majority.
