Somebody uses my identity!

I have received a letter from Citibank a while ago, I opened the letter and read it. I was surprised that I was rejected to have a Citibank credit card, and I can apply again after 6 months, even though I have not applied for it. Is it possible that somebody out there, knows my address and my complete name? Then, he/she uses my name to apply for a credit card? How can I protect myself from these possible threats? Is it dangerous or should I just disregard this certain issue?

I have called Citibank after receiving this letter, then they verified my identity (asked my birth date and mother’s maiden name) and asked for a reference number that is indicated in the letter which they gave me. Subsequently, they asked me if I have applied online, or if somebody called me from Citibank. I replied, “No, I haven’t applied and no one called me and offered such credit card”. In addition to what has been said, they told that they will just make an incident report about it.

So? What’s the catch? What if I, myself, applied for a credit card, I will not be accepted after 6 months from the date that I am rejected to have one. But, it’s not a big deal for me. I just want to create an open letter to the ONE, who used my identity to apply for a credit card, to say Thank You, and may God bless you, and welcome you in His kingdom, as early as NOW.

Good day! ^_^

I believe na galing yan sa mga credit card agents. They have means to get your personal information from other credit card companies. Pero mostly tinatawagan ka ng mga agents.

Anyway, if na approve k naman ng card, sa address mo naman madeliver yun at ikaw lang makagamit. unless iba ang information na binigay.

be very careful. don’t disclose much of your personal information. sa email marami na ring ganyan that they need to verify your account dw ganyan ganyan to a bank you never had an account before. Phishing emails as what they call. I receive din a citibank email last year and i immediately mark it as spam. di ko na binasa, wala nman akong affiliations or account with that bank so why bother.

teka, did you get the citibank’s phone number from the letter itself?

    Sikat ka na kasi…hehe.

But I guess that is a serious matter. You need to protect yourself.
